The New Britain Wikipedia entry

I’m no expert on Wikipedia, but there is an entry about New Britain. I cannot tell who wrote the main entry, and that may be a result of my lack of familiarity with this online encyclopedia.

Whoever is responsible for this initial entry deserves many thanks. I mean that. It's clear that someone has taken the trouble to get the ball rolling on what may be an important resource.

That said, this entry about New Britain can be improved upon and it will take contributions from the community to do so. The initial Wiki entry gives a partial picture of New Britain’s ethnic makeup, a good starting point, but the city has a very diverse ethnic population.

And I don’t understand why it singles out Capitol Lunch. I added in Meadowlands and Roma, two personal favorites and deserving of mention as well, if restaurants are to be singled out.

There’s a lot that can be added. I tried to make a little start of it by including a list of reference books. The only book listed so far is Camp's work. I added last week a list of reference books but they were were either removed or weren't properly saved.

To draw attention and hopefully elicit a response from whoever is editing the New Britain Wiki entry, I include the URL of this blog in the External Links section. I'd like to find out more about how this works, how content is added and subtracted, and how there can be discussion about what should be in the Wiki. But will agreement ever be possible ...

There are other problems with the wikipedia article. For example, there are very few within article references and of those that are in the article, some lead to facts contrary to those stated (for example, the article on the man who invented American football states he was born in New Haven, not New Britain). Additionally, the article isn't written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article, but rather chatty prose and anecdotes unbefitting of the article, for example: "Just ask a Polish-American where their parents met. There's a good chance they met at Halerpost!"

Yes, the Wikipedia entry is a mess and there's a notice on it saying that it doesn't meet standards. It will take an organized effort to make sense of it.
